Philadelphia Tour Guide: University City
Monday, October 8, 2018Happy Monday guys!
So I've been living in Philadelphia for a little over a year now and I've been able to explore different parts of the city and I want to create a guide to help anyone who doesn't know the city too well! So I'm going to break up the guide to different parts in Philadelphia. For the first post I will take you guys around University City! So lets start with places to eat!!
I love eating so the first thing I did when I moved to Philly was find good places to eat that are also quick and easy since I'm a college students and I'm always on a time crunch. One of the places I love is Goldie Falafel but definitely avoid going at 12pm because the lines get really long. They sell the best falafel sandwiches, salads, and tahina shakes in Philly! I usually order a falafel salad or sometimes I just order a bag of the falafel with fries, which is great if you want something light!

Another quick and easy place I like to eat at is Cucina Zapata! If you're feeling a Thai/Mexican fusion food like fried fish burrito, fish tacos, chicken katsu over rice or short rib tacos this is the place to go! It's a food truck on Drexel's campus but since everything is so good the line gets extremely long during lunch hours just like Goldie! You can find yourself waiting over 30 minutes in the extreme heat in the summer or in the freezing winter. I recommend getting the fried fish over rice with an egg and a little bit of curry sauce on the side, it's filling and cheap! I would also definitely check out their boba tea as well!

Now if you want to go to a sit down restaurant I recommend going to White Dog Cafe on Penn's campus, everything they offer on their menu is delicious! If you're there for brunch I recommend getting the Kennet Square Omelet and for lunch or dinner I recommend getting their Green Meadow farm double cheddar burger! It's the best burger I've ever had and it pairs so well with their truffle fries! It's big so make sure you come in hungry! For dessert, I recommend trying the chocolate haze, it consists of three mini desserts and it will definitely hit all of your chocolate cravings!
Another sit down restaurant I recommend is Bernie's also on Penn's campus! They have delicious honey bbq wings or sweet and spicy wings! For the main course, I recommend getting the crispy chicken salad but I'm 100% sure everything else on the menu is good as well! I've only been there once but I definitely will return to try other things on the menu.
Moving on to coffeeshops, there aren't many but my favorite is United by Blue Coffeeshop on UPenn's campus. It's a clothing store/coffeeshop and it's perfect for sitting down having a chat or doing work! I usually get a vanilla latte with oat milk which is delicious hot or iced! If you're feeling something sweet check out their pastry selection, I recommend getting the hand pump donut!
Other good coffeeshop is Joe's Coffee which is on Drexel's campus! This place is good to have a chat with friends or if you have a fully charged laptop because they don't offer any outlets! Either way it's a great stop by for some good coffee!
Moving on to desserts, there are a few places that I really like for sweet treats, one of them is Federal Donuts! Their made to order donuts are the best, I recommend trying the cinnamon sugar donut. Another one is Insomnia Cookies, they're soft and chewy cookies that you'll love!
Some nice places for pictures is Cira Green located on S 30th Street, it's a rooftop of a garage and they turned it into a nice park with spectacular city views and there's a huge TV monitor for you to watch and hangout! Other picturesque spots is UPenn's campus. They have so many pretty spots to take pictures around campus and it's especially nice during the fall time!
Well this wraps up the University City tour guide! I hope you guys enjoy reading this blog post and check out the places I recommend!
